Power Take - Off (PTO’s)

There are four main parts to a truck or bus hydraulic system; the control valve, hydraulic pump, fluid, pistons and cylinders. Within a bus, truck or industrial hydraulic system the Power Take Offs are critical to enabling function.

It is therefore important that you include the PTO, alongside the splined drive shaft and full gear system within the standard vehicle maintenance checks.

Power takes-offs (PTOs) are mechanical devices that are connected to the gear systems of commercial vehicles where they receive the driving power and transfer it to other mechanical devices like hydraulic pumps.

What type of Power Take Offs we supply?

Working with top brands such as EATON as well as other European manufacturers, we can supply you with the full range of Power Take Offs (PTOs) and accessories including:

When should you replace your Power Take Offs?

The PTO’s are typically designed and manufactured to sit above the flywheel, where it acts as a mechanical conduit between the engine (driveline) and either the hydraulic pump, generator or air compressor. The most common indicators that the PTO’s are becoming defective include:

  • The clutch doesn’t engage at all

  • The clutch ‘kicks’ out of the gate, and will not stay engaged

  • The PTO is overheating on a standard drive, or under recommended load

When replacing your PTO you need to make sure that you are considering the horsepower and torque of the vehicle, as well as the size of the mounting face available, and the PTO application or purpose.

Selecting a replacement power take off for a truck, bus or commercial vehicle can be difficult, and fitting an inadequate one can be costly and negatively impact the time on road.
