When should you replace your Power Take Offs?
The PTO’s are typically designed and manufactured to sit above the flywheel, where it acts as a mechanical conduit between the engine (driveline) and either the hydraulic pump, generator or air compressor. The most common indicators that the PTO’s are becoming defective include:
The clutch doesn’t engage at all
The clutch ‘kicks’ out of the gate, and will not stay engaged
The PTO is overheating on a standard drive, or under recommended load
When replacing your PTO you need to make sure that you are considering the horsepower and torque of the vehicle, as well as the size of the mounting face available, and the PTO application or purpose.
