When should you replace your Turbocharger?

Turbochargers are very reliable and only a very small percentage fail due to manufacturing faults.

Turbochargers generally fail as a result of:

- Oil starvation
- Oil contamination
- Impact damage
- Blocked engine breathers
- Hot shut down
- Overspeeding (turbo shaft and wheel assembly)

In the event that a turbocharger fails, it is of utmost importance that the cause of failure is identified prior to installing the replacement unit. Failure to do this could result in failure of the replacement unit also. Always ensure that the unit is installed in accordance with installation procedures specific to the turbocharger and that the replacement turbo is compatible with the unit it is replacing. This includes checking that the oil feed and drain connections and the position of the air and exhaust connections are compatible.
